Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of scientific literacy and critical thinking skills of junior high school students. The research subjects were seventh grade students of SMPN 3 Merauke. The research method is quantitative descriptive. The instruments used are questions of scientific literacy and questions of critical thinking skills. The results showed the scientific literacy profile of class VII students with an average of 34% in the low category. While the profile of critical thinking skills with an average of 38.55% is in the low category. So it can be concluded that the results of the study indicate that the profile of scientific literacy and critical thinking skills of seventh grade students of SMPN 3 Merauke is in the low category. This requires action to improve scientific literacy and critical thinking skills for students by applying appropriate models or methods. The need for technical guidance or training for teachers to make scientific literacy instruments and think critically, so that they can apply practice questions during learning.
