Abstract
The formation of independent caring groups is one of the government's efforts to empower the community in terms of processing and utilizing family medicinal plants. One implementation that can be said to be successful is the formation of the Turi Putih Independent Caring Group located in Kebonagung Village, Wonodadi District, Blitar Regency. This group has also formed five pilot independent caring groups consisting of the Cantik Independent Caring Group, the Sakinah Independent Caring Group, the Ploong Independent Caring Group, the Sugih Waras Independent Caring Group, and the Kemaruk Independent Caring Group. The formation of independent caring groups in Kebonagung Village has the main goal for improving public health and with the long term goal for improving the economy. However, in contrast to the well-developed Turi Putih Independent Caring Group, the pilot groups that were formed did not experienced development significantly. The purpose of this research was to find out community empowerment through Turi Putih Independent Caring Group. This research was conducted using qualitative methods with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this reserach indicate that the aspect of empowerment has been carried out but there are several obstacles in its development, especially in the low participation of members of the pilot independent caring group and the differences in empowerment carried out towards the Turi Putih Independent Caring Group.
