Abstract

Sustainable natural resource (SDA)-based community development is the key to achieving inclusive economic prosperity while preserving the environment. This article discusses the importance of community empowerment in managing natural resources in Indonesia, which is rich in potential but often faces problems of environmental damage and social inequality. Sustainable community development focuses on three main dimensions: economic, social and environmental, emphasizing active community participation in natural resource management. Through local economic empowerment, environmental education, and institutional strengthening, communities can manage natural resources wisely and reduce dependence on environmentally destructive practices. This research also highlights various challenges, including a lack of environmental education, limited capital, and external interventions that threaten the rights of local communities. With supportive policies and access to environmentally friendly technology, natural resource-based development can be carried out optimally without sacrificing natural sustainability. Community-based natural resource management models, as seen in social forestry in Kalimantan and ecotourism in Bali, are clear examples of how this approach can bring balanced economic and environmental benefits.
