Abstrak

The purpose of this study is to describe the social service agency's efforts in supporting school dropouts in Merauke Regency. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach. To collect research data, the researcher conducted interviews with 13 informants as a sample. The data were analyzed using an interactive data analysis method, which consists of three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings reveal that the social service’s support programs for school dropouts include pre-social rehabilitation (prarehabsos), Community Learning Centers (PKBM), and parenting programs, all of which play a significant role in facilitating the reintegration of children into formal education and in developing their life skills. The approach integrates prevention, development, and social rehabilitation. Prarehabsos functions as a preventive measure, PKBM provides a more flexible non-formal education pathway, and parenting programs enhance parental awareness of the importance of education. Social rehabilitation is carried out through cross-sectoral collaboration, involving various relevant institutions. Active participation of the children and the cultivation of personal responsibility are integral parts of the process. Although economic challenges and limited access to higher education remain major obstacles, the programs have demonstrated positive outcomes and are expected to foster greater independence among school dropouts through the support of government, families, and the wider community.
