Abstract

This article discusses the dynamics of power relations between men and women that occur in the Asmat tribe based on an analysis of the cultural arena that occurs within them. The aim is to identify patterns of agent involvement and changes in social structures related to the power relations of women and men in Asmat. The method used is a qualitative method with a feminist ethnographic approach. The data collection process was carried out by combining document studies, self-reflexive, and interviews. The author's full involvement in the research allows for self-reflection regarding the context and issues of the dynamics of the power relations of women and men. The results of the study show that there are patterns of change that are lost and replaced, some of which are based on the culture of origin and some on the impact that lies behind it. Changes in the status and position of women occur along with changes in the social order that occur and are experienced by women. Changing arenas will determine changing positions on the basis of the authority possessed by an agent in various arenas.
