Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to describe the levels of anxiety, self-confidence, and motivation among West Nusa Tenggara Taekwondo athletes participating in the Kapolresta Mataram Cup I Open Tournament in 2023.

Materials and Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive design. The participants were 34 Taekwondo athletes from West Nusa Tenggara, consisting of 20 male and 14 female athletes. Data were collected using validated questionnaires measuring anxiety, self-confidence, and motivation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with SPSS version 24, including mean, median, mode, standard deviation, minimum score, maximum score, frequency, and percentage. The results were interpreted into five categories: very low, low, moderate, high, and very high.

Results: The findings showed that most athletes had high levels of anxiety, self-confidence, and motivation before competition. Male athletes generally showed high anxiety, high self-confidence, and high motivation. Female athletes also demonstrated similar patterns, although the distribution of scores varied across categories.

Conclusions: The psychological condition of Taekwondo athletes before competition was characterized by high anxiety, but this was accompanied by high self-confidence and motivation. These findings indicate that psychological preparation should be integrated into training programs to help athletes manage anxiety while maintaining confidence and competitive motivation.
