Abstract

Objectives:This study aimed to determine the effect of the play-based training approach method on dribbling skills in soccer among SSB ASBUJ (Asrama Bujang) Ncera players aged 10–12 years. This study was motivated by the players’ low dribbling ability, such as inadequate ball control, low dribbling speed, and frequent loss of ball possession when attempting to pass opponents during game situations. Dribbling is considered one of the most important basic techniques in soccer, especially for young players.

Materials and Methods:This study employed an experimental method using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The population consisted of all SSB ASBUJ Ncera players aged 10–12 years, with a total sample of 20 players selected using a total sampling technique. The research instrument used was a soccer dribbling skill test. The training program was conducted over 12 sessions using a play-based approach. Data analysis techniques included descriptive statistics, normality testing, homogeneity testing, and paired sample t-test analysis.

Results:The results showed an improvement in players’ dribbling skills after the implementation of the play-based training approach. The post-test mean score was better than the pre-test mean score, indicating an increase in dribbling performance. In addition, the t-test results showed a significant effect of the play-based training approach on the improvement of players’ dribbling skills (p < 0.05).

Conclusions:The play-based training approach method had a significant effect on dribbling skills in soccer among SSB ASBUJ Ncera players aged 10–12 years. Therefore, the play-based approach can be used as an effective training method to improve basic soccer technical skills in young players.
