The Effect of a Traditional Game Approach on Learning Motivation in Physical Education among Fifth-Grade Students at SDN 1 Runggu
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the effect of the traditional games approach on improving elementary school students’ learning motivation in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were 20 fifth-grade students of SDN 1 Runggu selected through purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a learning motivation questionnaire based on a Likert scale covering indicators of perseverance, interest, attention, and student activeness. Data analysis was conducted using the paired sample t-test with the assistance of SPSS software after fulfilling the prerequisite tests of normality and homogeneity. The results showed that the average score of students’ learning motivation increased from 62.5 in the pretest to 78.9 in the posttest. The hypothesis testing result showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that there was a significant effect of the traditional games approach on students’ learning motivation. Therefore, the implementation of traditional games in PJOK learning proved to be effective in improving students’ learning motivation and creating a more active and enjoyable learning process.
