Author Guidelines

1. About the Manuscript

Musamus Journal of Mathematics Education (MJME) publishes original scholarly works in the field of mathematics education, including empirical research articles, theoretical studies, critical analyses, and review articles that contribute to the advancement of mathematics teaching, learning, assessment, curriculum, and related areas.

Manuscripts submitted to MJME must be original works that have not been previously published and are not under consideration for publication in another journal or publication outlet. By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the work is original and has not been simultaneously submitted elsewhere.

All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the MJME online submission system. Authors are required to register and create an account on the journal website before submitting a manuscript.

2. Language and Manuscript Length

• Manuscripts may be written in English or Indonesian.
• The manuscript should contain approximately 10–15 pages, including tables, figures, and references.
• The manuscript should be prepared using the latest official MJME Manuscript Template.
• The manuscript must be written clearly, coherently, and in accordance with academic writing conventions.

3. Manuscript Formatting

• Paper size: A4.
• Font: Times New Roman.
• Font size: 12 pt, unless otherwise specified in the manuscript template.
• Line spacing: follow the formatting requirements provided in the official MJME manuscript template.
• Tables, figures, graphs, and other visual materials must be numbered consecutively and referred to in the text.
• The total proportion of tables, figures, graphs, and other visual materials should not exceed approximately 25% of the manuscript.

4. Manuscript Structure

The manuscript should generally be organized according to the following structure:

4.1 Title

The title should be concise, specific, informative, and accurately reflect the content of the manuscript. The title should contain no more than 12 words and should use Title Case.

4.2 Author Names and Affiliations

The full names of all authors should be provided without academic or professional titles. Each author's institutional affiliation and active email address must be clearly stated. The corresponding author should be identified during the submission process.

Authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID iD and relevant academic identifiers, where available.

4.3 Abstract

The abstract should be written in English and Indonesian and presented in a single paragraph of approximately 100–200 words. The abstract should briefly describe the background or research problem, research objective, methodology, main findings, and conclusion or implication of the study.

The abstract should be informative and understandable without requiring readers to consult the main text. References, citations, tables, figures, and unexplained abbreviations should not be included in the abstract.

4.4 Keywords

Provide 3–5 keywords or key phrases that represent the main concepts of the manuscript. Keywords should be separated by semicolons (;).

4.5 Introduction

The introduction should clearly explain the research background, problem or research gap, relevant previous studies, theoretical foundation, research objectives, and, where appropriate, the novelty or contribution of the study. The introduction should be supported by relevant and up-to-date scholarly references.

The introduction should generally account for approximately 15–20% of the total manuscript.

4.6 Research Method

The method section should provide sufficient information to allow readers to understand and, where appropriate, reproduce the research. It should include the research approach and design, participants or research subjects, research setting, data sources, data collection procedures, research instruments, and data analysis techniques.

For quantitative studies, authors should clearly describe the population, sample, sampling procedures, instruments, validity and reliability procedures, and statistical analysis. For qualitative studies, including classroom action research, ethnography, phenomenology, case studies, and related approaches, authors should describe the researcher’s role as an instrument, participants or informants, research location and duration, data collection procedures, data analysis, and strategies used to establish the credibility or trustworthiness of the findings.

If specialized tools, instruments, software, or materials are used, their relevant specifications should be clearly described.

The method section should generally account for approximately 15–25% of the total manuscript.

4.7 Results and Discussion

The results and discussion should be presented as an integrated section. The results should be presented clearly and systematically, followed by an interpretation of the findings in relation to relevant theories, previous research, and the research questions or objectives.

The discussion should highlight the significance of the findings, similarities or differences with previous studies, theoretical or practical implications, and the contribution of the study to the field of mathematics education. Tables and figures should be used only when they effectively support the explanation of the findings.

The results and discussion section should generally account for at least 50% of the total manuscript.

4.8 Conclusion and Implications

The conclusion should directly address the research objectives and summarize the main findings of the study. It should not simply repeat the results presented in the previous section. Where relevant, authors may include the implications of the findings for mathematics education practice, theory, policy, or future research.

The conclusion should be written in narrative form rather than as a numbered or bulleted list. Recommendations should be specific and logically derived from the findings.

4.9 References

The reference list should contain only sources cited in the manuscript. Authors should prioritize recent and relevant primary sources, particularly articles published in reputable peer-reviewed journals.

• At least 75% of the references should preferably consist of scholarly journal articles.
• References should generally be from the most recent 10 years, except for seminal or foundational works that are essential to the study.
• The manuscript should contain at least 15 relevant references, unless the nature of the manuscript requires otherwise.
• Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, or equivalent tools.
• References and citations should follow the latest applicable APA style as specified in the MJME manuscript template.

5. Tables, Figures, and Graphs

Tables, figures, graphs, and other visual materials must be relevant to the research and should contribute directly to the understanding of the manuscript. Each table and figure must have a clear title or caption and must be cited in the main text.

Authors should ensure that all visual materials are of sufficient quality and resolution for publication. The total amount of visual material should not exceed approximately 25% of the manuscript, unless otherwise justified by the nature of the research.

6. Citations and Referencing

In-text citations should follow the applicable APA citation style. For example:

• Parenthetical citation: (Bakry, 2008)
• Narrative citation: Bakry (2008)
• Direct quotation: (Bakry, 2008, p. 37)

Authors must ensure that all sources cited in the manuscript appear in the reference list and that all references listed are cited in the manuscript.

7. Originality and Plagiarism

All submitted manuscripts must be original and must not contain plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, or inappropriate reuse of previously published material. Manuscripts will be screened for similarity using plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin, in accordance with the journal's plagiarism policy.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all sources are properly acknowledged and cited. Manuscripts that violate the journal's publication ethics or plagiarism policy may be rejected or withdrawn from the publication process.

8. Ethical and Publication Requirements

Authors must ensure that the manuscript complies with the journal's Publication Ethics, Plagiarism Policy and Screening, and other applicable editorial policies.

Where applicable, authors must provide information regarding ethical approval, informed consent, conflicts of interest, funding sources, and author contributions. All authors listed in the manuscript must have made a substantial contribution to the work and must approve the final version of the manuscript.

9. Submission Requirements

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that:

• The manuscript is within the scope of MJME.
• The manuscript follows the latest MJME manuscript template.
• The manuscript has not been published previously and is not under consideration by another journal.
• All authors have approved the submitted version of the manuscript.
• All sources are properly cited and listed in the reference list.
• The manuscript has been checked for language quality and plagiarism.
• All required metadata and author information are completed accurately in the online submission system.

10. Editorial Decision and Publication

The editorial team reserves the right to make editorial decisions regarding the acceptance, revision, or rejection of submitted manuscripts based on the results of editorial screening and peer review.

Manuscripts may be accepted, returned for minor revision, returned for major revision, or rejected. The final decision is made by the editorial team based on the manuscript's academic quality, originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's scope, and reviewers' recommendations.

The editorial team reserves the right to make necessary editorial and formatting adjustments to accepted manuscripts to ensure consistency with the publication standards of Musamus Journal of Mathematics Education.
