Publication Ethics

Musamus Journal of Mathematics Education

Musamus Journal of Mathematics Education (MJME) is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Musamus University. The journal is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics, academic integrity, transparency, and responsible scholarly publishing.

This publication ethics statement outlines the ethical responsibilities and expected conduct of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher. MJME follows the principles and best practices promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Responsibilities of the Publisher

The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Musamus University, as the publisher of MJME, is committed to supporting the journal in maintaining academic integrity and ethical standards throughout the publication process.

The publisher does not interfere with editorial decisions concerning the selection, review, revision, acceptance, or rejection of manuscripts. Editorial decisions are based on the academic quality, originality, relevance, methodological soundness, and contribution of submitted manuscripts.

Advertising, sponsorship, reprints, or other commercial interests shall not influence editorial decisions. The publisher also supports the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board in addressing ethical issues, allegations of publication misconduct, corrections, retractions, and other matters related to publication integrity.

2. Responsibilities of Editors

Publication Decisions. The Editor-in-Chief and editors are responsible for making decisions regarding the publication of submitted manuscripts. Editorial decisions should be based on academic quality, originality, relevance to the journal's scope, methodological soundness, and contribution to the field.

Fair Play. Editors evaluate manuscripts objectively and fairly based on their intellectual and academic content, without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, nationality, institutional affiliation, or political philosophy.

Confidentiality. Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts. Information about a manuscript may only be disclosed to the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher when necessary and appropriate.

Conflicts of Interest. Editors must not use unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for their own research without the explicit written permission of the authors. Editors must also declare and manage potential conflicts of interest.

Handling of Misconduct. Editors are responsible for investigating suspected cases of plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabrication, falsification, authorship disputes, and other forms of research or publication misconduct.

3. Responsibilities of Authors

Originality and Plagiarism. Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original works and have not been published previously. All sources, ideas, statements, and materials derived from other works must be properly acknowledged and cited.

Multiple or Redundant Publication. Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously or publish substantially similar research in multiple journals without appropriate justification and disclosure.

Authorship. Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, conduct, analysis, interpretation, or substantial revision of the research and manuscript. All listed authors must approve the final version of the manuscript.

Data and Research Integrity. Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the data and information presented in their manuscripts. Research data must not be fabricated, falsified, manipulated, or intentionally misrepresented.

Ethical Approval. Authors are responsible for obtaining ethical approval or appropriate research permission when required by the nature of the research. Relevant ethical considerations should be clearly stated in the manuscript when applicable.

Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest. Authors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, or other relationships that could potentially influence the interpretation or presentation of their research.

Corrections. If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article when necessary.

4. Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions. Peer reviewers assist editors in evaluating the academic quality, originality, relevance, and methodological soundness of submitted manuscripts.

Confidentiality. Reviewers must treat all manuscripts received for review as confidential documents and must not share or discuss their contents with unauthorized persons.

Objectivity. Reviews should be conducted objectively, professionally, and constructively. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate.

Timeliness. Reviewers who are unable to complete a review within the specified time should promptly inform the editor.

Conflict of Interest. Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts if they have personal, professional, financial, or other conflicts of interest that could affect the objectivity of their evaluation.

Use of Unpublished Material. Reviewers must not use unpublished information, ideas, data, or arguments contained in a submitted manuscript for their own research or personal benefit without explicit permission from the authors.

5. Plagiarism and Similarity Check

All submitted manuscripts are subject to editorial screening for plagiarism and inappropriate text similarity. The journal may use plagiarism detection software or other appropriate similarity-checking tools as part of the initial screening process.

Manuscripts containing substantial plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other forms of inappropriate similarity may be rejected. If ethical concerns are identified after publication, the journal may take appropriate corrective action in accordance with relevant publication ethics guidelines.

6. Conflicts of Interest

All authors, editors, and peer reviewers are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may influence the publication process or the interpretation of research findings.

Conflicts of interest may include financial relationships, professional affiliations, personal relationships, academic competition, or other circumstances that could compromise objectivity. Appropriate measures shall be taken to ensure the integrity and fairness of the editorial and peer review process.

7. Complaints and Appeals

MJME is committed to handling complaints and appeals in a fair, transparent, and timely manner. Authors who wish to appeal an editorial decision or raise a concern about the publication process should contact the Editor-in-Chief through the official journal contact channel.

Complaints and appeals will be reviewed carefully and handled in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and applicable publication ethics principles.

8. Corrections and Retractions

If significant errors are identified in a published article, the journal may publish a correction or other appropriate notice. In cases involving serious errors, research misconduct, plagiarism, duplicate publication, or unreliable findings, the journal may retract the article in accordance with established publication ethics principles.

Any correction or retraction decision will be made carefully and transparently, with the aim of maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.
